The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Agyei Awatey, has donated food items worth thousands of cedis to the Council of Muslim Chiefs in Koforidua Zango, a gesture extended to the Muslim community in New Juaben North.
The donation comes as part of efforts to support the Muslim community as they mark Eid al-Fitr, following a month of fasting and prayers during Ramadan. The Minister commended them for their prayers for Ghana and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting Zango communities.
She assured the Council of Muslim Chiefs that the Mahama-led NDC government will ensure equity in the distribution of development opportunities, particularly in Zango communities.
She also announced plans to grant scholarships for young men and women in Muslim communities to study abroad, helping to build human capital for economic and social development.
Touching on infrastructure, she acknowledged the development deficit in Zango communities, particularly in Koforidua Zango, and assured that the government will address the poor road network and other pressing challenges.
Alhaji Mohammed Nurideen, spokesperson for the Regional Council of Muslim Chiefs, commended President John Mahama for fulfilling many promises to Muslim communities within his first 120 days in office.

He cited the reduction of Hajj fares and the introduction of extra holidays for Eid al-Fitr celebrations. He pledged continuous support to the government to succeed.
However, he reminded the President of their longstanding request to appoint a member of the Zango community as Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South the first time since its establishment.
