The Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Acheampong has hinted that as part of his broader vision of expanding the economy in the region and decongest markets centers and create more opportunities, he is lobbying investors to construct modern markets and shopping malls in Koforidua, Nkawkaw, Oda, and Nsawam.
He says has the propensity to revive the local economy and create jobs for the youth.
The Regional Minister bemoaned heavy vehicular traffic situation on Bunso to Nkawkaw stretch of the Accra to Kumasi highway stating that Transport Minister and the Minister for Roads and Highways have shown enough commitment to get it fixed by removing the bottlenecks on the roads and creating alternative routes especially at the central businesses of these towns.
He said this when Nana Effah Opinamand III, Chief of Obomeng-Kwahu on 22nd June 2021, and his entourage called on the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong at his office in Koforidua, the Regional Capital.
The purpose of the visit was to congratulate him on his appointment as the Eastern Regional Minister and to offer his absolute support to him.
The Eastern Regional Minister expressed appreciation to Nana Opinamand III and his entourage for the warm visit and assured him of his commitment to the development of the entire Eastern Region and to leave a legacy that would be remembered by future generations.
He mentioned that the Nkawkaw-Obomeng road had already been given the needed attention for the construction of an asphalt overlay and the construction of the bridge that the Chief requested.
He also commended Nananom for giving out land to be used to construct a terminal for the long vehicles and haulages in the area.
Nana Opinamang III applauded the President, H. E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for initiated the GREENING GHANA PROJECT and also offered his support. He indicated that the Traditional Council would continue to plant trees and commercial crops like coconut seedlings, mango seedlings, orange seedlings, etc. at the river banks, buffer sites at Nkawkaw, and the surrounding communities.
He took the opportunity to table before the Regional Minister some of the developmental needs of the people in his traditional area.
These included decongestion or easing of road traffic in Nkawkaw, the establishment of a modern market in Nkawkaw, dredging of gutters and rivers in Nkawkaw, Construction of bridge at Obomeng, and establishing a police station at Abepotia.
He also expressed concern about how big trucks and haulages were allowed to park at the shoulders of Nkawkaw bypass and indicated that the Traditional Council has issues land to be used to construct a modern parking place for these long vehicles.
On Education, Nana Opinamang appealed to the government to adopt Obomeng Senior High School which was started by the Traditional Council and the Community into Ghana Education Service Schools.
Nana Opinamand III was accompanied by Nana Osei Kisi I (Benkumhene), Nana Owusu Ansong (Nifahene), Nana Owusu Ameyaw (Dabihene) and Nana Mireku Debrah (Akyeamehene).
