Officials of the National Disaster Management Organization, NADMO, on Monday, March 16, 2020, interrupted a naming ceremony at Coaltar, the District Capital of Ayensuano District of the Eastern Region over Coronavirus scare.
The NADMO Staff led by the District Director, Joseph Okai Gyan whilst on monitoring tour in the community to ensure compliance to the President’s directive on public gatherings, came across a group of people in a house at Coaltar Zongo having a naming ceremony.
Though the program was near ending, the District Director interrupted it with a caution and education on the Coronavirus and suspension of public gathering with participants more than 25.
“We were on monitoring to ensure adherence to the directive by President Nana Akufo-Addo on Sunday night.so having visited many schools which were closed, by the way, we noticed a group of people gathered at Zongo, when we got there we noticed they were having a naming ceremony with the number more than 25 though some had left .so we told the people to desist from such gatherings to prevent the spread of the coronavirus”.
He added “they claim they were not aware of any directive so after explaining to them, they understood. In fact, the District Chief Imam- Mallam Ali Abdulai, himself was there and he assured that it will not happen again.”
Ghana has recorded six cases of the coronavirus whilst contact tracing and testing ongoing.
