Leadership of GRIDco Senior Staff Staff Association has pledged it will always play its role by rallying staff for the task for which they have been employed.
According to Association, it do recognise that the senior staff is the touch bearer of the success of GRIDCo for those who do not know to have a rethink and sit up.
National Chairman of the Association, Raphael Kornor disclosed this at Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital at the National Biennial Delegates Conference held last Friday under the theme: “Sustainable Export Power Market in an Emerging Economy, the Role of GRIDCo and Stakeholders”.
Infrastructure Investment
The National Chairman indicated that GRIDCo has made capital investment in infrastructure development (Dunkwabreak-in and Pokuase-Kumasi 330kv line and some overloaded Transformers across the locations.
He mentioned provision of modern tools and equipment for speedy detection of faults and resolution of those faults when detected as well as provision of new operational vehicles, which should be deployed at the places where they are mostly needed as Maintenance staff are currently reeling seriously under rickety operational vehicles.
Staff Promotion and Upgrade
“Mr. Chairman let me use the opportunity to thank the Director of Human Resource and her team as well as tjhe CEO nad entire management team for the 2021/22 promotions that were done after series of engagement with the leadership of the staff groups” Mr. Kornor said.
He stated that to keep the pace with technological advancement and also to acquire additional knowledge, most staff have upgraded their know-how with their own scarce vresources and applying it on the job.
He revealed “the situation where it is only when a positin becomes vacant before Technician Engineers are considered for upgrade is not enough”.
Training and Development
Mr. Raphael Kornor drew the attention of Mnagement attention to developing a structured tailored training to suit staff needs and operations as they use to have in the days of VRA so as not to compromise on quality and productivity.
Cash Waterfall
According to the National Chairman, “Mr. Chairman permit me to say a little on the above that is not to remind us of what we went through in the 2019mthe “enough is enough” demonstration which has eventually culminated in the setting up of the cash waterfall which has given GRIDCo some level of respite of having to follow up with collection of cheque from ECG before salaries are paid and other major maintenance are done”.
Financial Markets Challenges/Hair cut on Pension Funds
The Association echoed the turbulence in the financial markets is very worrying and staff are seriuosly upbeat about it indicating that, what is more devastating is the numerous calls by retirees who have lost most of their investment due to the banking sector clean up undertaken by government some 3-4 years ago.
Mr. Kornor added “The hair cut that was announce recently and a zero percent coupon rate by government on pension funds for 2023 has sent a shivering thunder bolt through the spine of staff and retirees.
