Some youth of the opposition National Democratic Congress, NDC, on Saturday night besieged the Embassy and Diplomat hotel in Koforidua to stop some individuals allegedly collecting voters ID cards and Ghana Cards from some voters in New Juaben South.
The Eastern Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) led by the Regional Youth Organizer Richard Etornam Nyarko expressed strong suspicion of alleged collusion between the government and the Electoral Commission (EC) in what it describes as an “illegal transfer of votes” .
The youth wing’s concerns stem from the purported covert meeting at the Embassy and Diplomat Hotel which they observed, young voters were allegedly deceived to submit their Voter ID cards in exchange for a sum of GHC 50.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the Amasaman Constituency Organizer of the NPP led the effort, reportedly arriving at the hotel in a branded Toyota Hiace vehicle with NPP insignia.
In response to the alleged incident, NDC’s Eastern Regional Youth Organizer, Commander Richard Etornam Nyarko, lodged a formal complaint at the Koforidua Central Police Station. Following the report, police officers initiated an investigation, which has reportedly led to police arresting and interrogating the suspects.
The NDC youth wing has assured the public of its vigilance over electoral activities in the Eastern Region and emphasized that it will not tolerate any conduct aimed at undermining the democratic process. The group is encouraging the public to report any similar incidents to NDC authorities, pledging that they will act swiftly in response.
Additionally, the youth wing urged organizations and institutions to uphold their reputations by distancing themselves from acts that may compromise their integrity.
It also called on individuals and groups to resist attempts by those in power to manipulate them for questionable objectives.
