The newly established Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Kibi Government Hospital in Abuakwa South Municipality in Eastern region has admitted first newborn.
Kibi Government hospital has existed for many decades without NICU services therefore newborns who needed such services were refered to Eastern Regional hospital, Koforidua which is about 50 km drive.
As part of recent facelift and retooling of Kibi Government Hospital, the neonatal Intensive Care unit has been established and made first admission on May 23,2023.
Management announced that ” We are thrilled to announce that Kibi Government Hospital has successfully launched the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and welcomed our first client this morning. Our dedicated team is committed to providing exceptional care for newborns in need of intensive medical attention. Thank you for your continued support as we strive to offer the highest quality healthcare services to our community” .
A neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a hospital intensive care unit that specialises in looking after premature and sick newborn babies.
NICUs have specialist doctors, nurses, other professionals and equipment to care for sick and premature babies.
