A Non-Governmental Organization, As I Grow (AIG), has donated quantities of baby care products to Princess Nyarko, the eighteen (18) year old girl, who delivered triplets two weeks ago at Kibi government hospital but was referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital.
The donation is a big relief to the teenage mother who was struggling to take care of the babies.
The CEO of ” As I Grow ” Debrah Bekoe Issac said the NGO was touched by the plight of the teenage mother hence in line with its vision of supporting the vulnerable in society decided to mobilize resources to support the young nursing mother.
The NGO visited the home of the teenage mother at Kyebi Ahwenease in the Eastern region and donated quantities of baby diapers, wipes, baby dresses, soaps, washing powder, baby foods(Nan 1), baby napkins, baby pants(rubber pants), baby bathing soaps and an undisclosed amount to the family to support the mother and her children.
“Today, As I Grow Ngo visited Princess Nyarko, a teenager of 18 years who gave birth to triplets at Kyebi Ahwenase in the Eastern Region. The teenager has since been depressed and the family has since been struggling in taking care of the children. The teenage mother has not been able to breastfeed the triplets due to her condition. As I Grow Ngo donated baby diapers, wipes, baby dresses, soaps, washing powder, baby foods(Nan 1), baby napkins, baby pants(rubber pants), baby bathing soaps and an undisclosed amount to the family to support the mother and her children.
We believe you will continue to support AIG to do more for the needy in our deprived communities in Ghana”.He told the media.
Princess Nyarko, a resident of Akyem Ahwenease in Abuakwa South Municipality delivered naturally on the 8th month of the pregnancy but was referred from the Kyebi government hospital.
The babies were admitted to the neonatal care unit however the mother suffered postpartum depression after delivery. She is undergoing treatment.
The Sister of the new mother, Evelyn Oforiwaa, said earlier that, the babies were discharged Thursday morning with Ghc2,672.50 medical bill while the mother was billed ghc600, however, the family was unable to pay hence appealing for support.
“The hospital discharged the babies this morning but yet to discharge the mother because she suffered depression after delivery. The bill for the children is Ghc2,6725.50. We don’t know how much bill the mother will be charged when she is also delivered”.
She said the father of the babies is an unemployed young man of about 25 years who was dating the girl which resulted in pregnancy.
It took the intervention of benevolent individuals in the community to contribute money to settle the medical bills.
