The National Identification Authority, NIA, has resumed the mass registration exercise in the Eastern region after the exercise was put on hold on Monday, March 16, 2020, pending further directives.
A statement issued after meeting with some key stakeholders stated that the mass registration exercise currently underway will continue under specific guidelines which include that:“ all supervising Registration Officers (SRO} are to ensure, using appropriate queue techniques including numbering/appointment system to ensure that no long queue emerge at any center”.
Additionally,” all SROs shall ensure that no more than twent_five(25} persons including field officers present at the registration center at any given time.SROs shall take the particulars of all applicants immediately they arrive at a registration center. The applicants will be called to attend the registration center at a specific date and time on an appointment basis”.
The statement signed by the Head of Corporate Affairs Francis Palmdeti, further said “ after iris scanners are used by the applicant, field officials shall wipe them down before administering them to the next applicant. Ensure that applicants keep a social distance of two meters when at a registration center “
The statement urged all field officers to remain calm and strictly adhere to good sanitation practices whilst efforts are underway to provide them with hand gloves and sanitizers.
NIA suspended its mass registration exercise in the Eastern Region Monday, March 16, 2020, but after a stakeholders meeting issued a new directive that the exercise will continue but will only allow twenty-five persons including field officers at a center in a given time in line with the directive by President of Ghana, H.E Nana Akufo-Addo.
The decision is in line with directive by President of Ghana H.E Nana Akufo-Addo.
As a result, Ghana’s President after emergency stakeholders meeting on Sunday, March 15, announced the suspension of all public gatherings including conferences, funerals, and church activities for four weeks.
Also, all Universities, schools, etc have been closed from March 16, 2020.
