Market women and traders at Nkurakan in the Yilo Krobo District of the Eastern region are appealing to the Assembly as a matter of urgency to uplift the image of the main Nkurakan market.
According to aggrieved traders, the current state of the market is not the best and even poses threat to the people who patronize their foodstuffs.
The Nkurakan market serves the people of the community and other surrounding towns, including Koforidua but has seen little work done in making it a standard one.
The market is also a major source of revenue to the Assembly as far as its Internal Generated Fund (IGF) is concerned but has been denied of the necessary support over the years.
Speaking with Bryt Fm Nyarko Abronoma, traders indicated the need to tar the market square as mud takes over the area anytime it rains.
“How can we sell in this unhygienic condition for people to come and buy. My brother, don’t you think it can have an effect on their health? I think authorities must construct the market for us so that we can feel free to sell” Dede, a market woman told the reporter.
Others also complained that their activities come to a standstill anytime it rains as there are no proper sheds for them to occupy and are therefore left to the mercy of the weather.
They are, therefore, calling on authorities to intercede in their plight to ensure they have a conducive environment to do their businesses devoid of any health threat to their customers.
