Notorious highway Robbery gang operating in Kwaebibirem District of the Eastern Region on Thursday evening shot two vehicles including that of a Roman Father traveling on Akyem Asuom to Kade road.
According to the Police report, a driver by name Abubakari Sule, 37 rushed to the Kade Police station and reported that on Thursday, February 18, 2021, about 7:00pm, whiles he was in charge of an unregistered Honda CRV onboard with six persons from Asuom going to Kade found a section of the road blocked with firewood.
He said, he slowed down and all of a sudden about 8 armed robbers wearing a mask and some of them wielding guns fired at his car. That in the process caused damage to the windscreen, rear glass of the driver side was also smashed and front tyre also deflated.
The District officer, DSP Stephen Abanga incharge four men onboard SV/No. GP 281 driven by G/L/Cpl. Donkor Bernard proceeded to the crime scene and returned with three UNUSED shells of BBB cartridges and three empty shells of BBB cartridges and reported that when police got to the scene the armed robbers had escaped.
According to Abubakari Sule” the driver’s side tyre deflated and the main windscreen smashed, he was going to Abaam and just about five kilometers from Asuom they met a group of armed robbers numbering about eight with two of them holding pump-action guns who shot at them causing damage to their vehicle windscreen and deflated the tyres”
Later, a Roman Father -Rev./Fr. Emmanuel Angmor who was driving a Nissan Pick-up with registration Number GN 8091-14, about 7:25pm also reported to the police that he was returning from Abaam to Asuom township and met armed robbers numbering about six with two of them holding pump action guns.
He said, the robbers shot at the passenger side door and the back windscreen, as well as the front tyre of the driver’s side, causing damage to them all. Police combed the area and found three spent and three u used BBB Cartridges but none of the robbers were traced.
No arrest has been made.
The robbers are said to be the same gang that shot three police officers on February 3, 2021, leading to the death of one, while others sustained injuries.
