Some members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Akim Swedru Constituency, Eastern Region, are expressing dissatisfaction with the current Member Parliament Hon. Kennedy Osei Nyarko, threatening to vote “skirt and blouse” if he is elected as the parliamentary candidate for the 2024 election.
The discontent among supporters stems from what they perceive as the MP’s lackluster performance over his nearly 12 years in office. Criticisms include an alleged absence of developmental initiatives, poor road networks, inadequate market infrastructure, and a lack of public sanitation facilities in the Akim Swedru community.
Supporters are urging delegates to elect Mr. Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem, the Controller and Accountant General, as the parliamentary candidate, emphasizing his positive impact on education, health, employment, and road construction within the constituency.
The supporters cite Mr. Bosompem’s contributions, such as aiding Swedru SHS and constructing a 12-unit classroom block across various localities.
His efforts in addressing the challenging road network, particularly the construction of the road linking Aporah Ningo to other communities, have garnered praise.
Additionally, interventions in health and sanitation are highlighted as areas where the Controller and Accountant General has made a positive impact.
Market women in Akim Swedru express dissatisfaction with the current MP, accusing him of neglecting their concerns and failing to address the deplorable state of the Akim Swedru market.
They claim the MP denied them access to a loan facility for their businesses.
As tensions rise within the NPP constituency, the threat of a “skirt and blouse” vote looms, reflecting the discontent among party members who believe a change in leadership is crucial for the progress of the Akim Swedru community.
The parliamentary primaries of the NPP has been scheduled to take place on January 27,2024.
