A group calling itself concerned NPP Youth in the Eastern region is demanding the immediate return of the party’s vehicles in possession of constituency chairmen who recently lost their positions.
At a protest and press conference held on the sidelines of National Constituency Officers Welfare in Koforidua, the leader of the group, Sarfo Gyamfi, since the constituency elections were held and new constituency chairmen were elected, the party’s constitution demand that the old executive’s hands over all properties belonging to the party to the newly elected constituency executives to ensure the smooth running of the constituencies.
However, according to Mr. Sarfo Gyamfi, it has come to their notice that all past constituency chairmen across all constituencies in the country still have in their possession some party vehicles refusing to return same to the new executives hence making their work more difficult.
“We are here as Concern NPP Youths in the Eastern region from all the 33 Constituencies. Something awful is happening at the party recently that we are not happy about, but we don’t want to put the laws into our own hands and do anything bad. But we wish to express our displeasure through press conferences so that all Ghanaians and the party leadership become aware of it.
The NPP recently had its polling stations, constituency, and regional elections and after the elections, it has come to our notice that all constituencies Chairmen who lost the elections have decided not to release the party’s cars in their possession to the newly elected Chairmen to help them work smoothly. So those chairmen who lost the elections are going around saying the cars belong to them.
The newly elected Chairmen reported the issues to the National Executive Council (NEC) but they were told by NEC that after the national elections the party’s steering committee will sit on the matter and bring their final verdicts, but we can still see that these cars are still being used and anything can happen”.
He served notice that, even though the group is waiting for the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) to make a pronouncement on the matter, the group wants to make it clear to the party National Executive Council that it will oppose any attempt to give the vehicles to the old constituency chairmen.
“So what we are demanding now is that any chairman who lost the elections should send the cars to the party’s offices or the regional minister’s residency until NEC come out with their decision. However, we want to set the records straight that even when NEC decides to give the cars to the old Chairmen, we the Concern NPP Youths in the Eastern region will not agree today and never” Sarfo Gyamfi stated.
The group further accused the various regional constituency chairmen of defiling the party’s constitution to secretly form a welfare group called National Constituency Officers Welfare.
“We have also noted that all the regional Constituency Chairmen have come together in the Eastern region to form a Welfare group secretly with their logos all around, meanwhile the party’s constitution does not allow anybody to form such a group within the party. So want them to call off the meeting immediately and also we want the party’s leadership the National Executive Council (NEC) to call these regional and constituency chairmen who have secretly formed the welfare group and put them into order” the group warned.
