Odehye Kwasi Akuffo of the Sekyibea Royal family of Akropong-Akuapem in the Eastern Region has dismissed an online publication on “Starrfm.com.gh” and “Ghanaweb.com” that claims he is carrying himself as a paramount chief.
Odehye Kwasi Akuffo has urged the public to regard the publication as purported and frivolous news and misleading.
Odehye Kwasi Akuffo attended the funeral of the late Odehye Gladys Abena Otema Ohene on Saturday, August 12, 2023, and as an “Odehye,” he dressed according to the traditional demands of the funeral but did not parade as a paramount chief.
“I respect the traditional laws, customs, and processes and follow the appropriate legal steps when dissatisfied rather than resorting to violence,” he said.
He stated that according to the constitution of Ghana, the government is not supposed to interfere in chieftaincy affairs.
However, once the chief has been selected by the family and the kingmakers and has gone through the traditional processes, the government publishes the name of the person who has been nominated as a legitimate chief in the Gazette.
He stressed that the government is not supposed to interfere, if there is a chieftaincy dispute, the government comes in to enforce the law, protect properties, calm violence, and ensure that the legitimate nominee is installed.
