Odehye Kwasi Akuffo, royal who carried himself as Okuapehene over the weekend creating seething anger in Akropong-Akuapem, declined invitation by Akuapem North Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) over th incident.
Odehye Kwasi Akuffo who was unsuccessful when contested then vacant Ofori kuma stool, on Saturday August 12, 2023 adorned with royal attire and regalia amid singing and drumming attended funeral of late Odehye Gladys Abena Otema Ohene, and paraded as Okuapehene creating fury among supporters of Okuapehene.
Akuapem North municipal security council (MUSEC) summoned Odehye Kwasi Akuffo to an emergency meeting on Tuesday August 15,2023 but he refused to attend claiming the invitation must be served through his lawyer whose location and address he refused to give out.
Speaking to the media after the MUSEC meeting, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE ) for Akuapem North Barima Asiedu Larbi who is Chairman of the security council said ,due to the delicate nature of the case ,the matter has been referred to the Eastern Regional security council for further action.
He however assured all ensudary that security is on top of the situation and there is absolute peace in Akropong therefore Odwira festival will come off as scheduled.
He said for the first time in about six years, Okuapehene will be carried in palanquin through the streets therefore enhanced security measures will be rolled out to protect lives and properties.
Barima Asiedu Larbi stated that recent chieftaincy dispute regarding the enstoolment of Okuapehene cost the assembly Ghc2 million debt just for maintenance of peace and security in the area,therefore , will not allow any group or individual to destabilize the peace Okuapeman is enjoying currently.
Okuapehene Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III was gazetted on October 5, 2022, following judgment by the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs on September 29, 2022, dismissing the appeal filed by the Queenmother of Okuapeman Nana Obuo Nketia II and three other petitioners including Odehye Kwasi Akuffo challenging the legitimacy of Abrewatia (Oldest women in the family) Lilly Agyemang of Sakyiabea royal family in nominating Odehye Kwadwo Kesse Antwi now Oseadeyo Kwasi Akuffo for enstoolment as Okuapehene.
