It is important to state that 203 households have either collapsed completely or partially damaged, the New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive Madam Comfort Asante has stated.
At a media briefing at the Assembly’s Hall on October 5, 2022 to update the public on update of current flooding cases, the MCE revealed that available records indicate it was in 1963 when flooding of such magnitude was experienced when River Densu overflowed its banks.
Statistics
Madam Comfort Asante emphasised 2,686 people have been rendered homeless; made up of 977 children, 489 males, 488 females as well as 1708 adults.
Meanwhile, one death case has been recorded with the deceased buried as Asokore and Akwadum remain the worst affect communities.
Water supply
The MCE also elaborated that water supply to the Akwadum community has been beefed up with the provision of 5000 litre polytank with portable water.
She stressed the move was to help prevent any disease outbreak as most sources of water provision have been polluted with wells also been chlorinated.
Appeal
“Despite all the efforts put by the Municipal Assembly and the Municipal Disaster Management Committee, we are appealing to the International Community, Government Institutions, NGOs, Civil Society, private organisations and individuals for support both in kind and cash to bring relief to the good people of the Municipality who have been affected by the floods” the MCE pleaded.
