Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Akuapem Mampong in Eastern region has received donation from ” As I Grow (AIG) foundation ” a non for Profit organization based in Larteh Akuapem in Eastern region .
The items donated included baby diapers , Dresses , Wipes, Tissues , Nurse cap ,Pulse oximeter, Gloves, Flow meter, Savalon, Nasal prongs
and washing powder.
The donation was aimed at supporting the unit to provide holistic and quality healthcare to children on admission.
Speaking to media after the donation founder of the organisation,Mr. Debrah Bekoe Isaac”said the attention of the NGO was drawn to the logistical challenges at the Paediatric and the NICU unit when the organization paid medical bills of some children struggling to pay their bill in February this year .The situation was very disheartening as the units were not having some simple equipments and items to aid the nurses in the execution of their duty reason we decided to get all these items to donate “.
Mr. Debrah Bekoe Isaac took the opportunity to thank Ms. Leonora Adoyobo who was the major sponsor for the donation.
Administrator of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital, Maxwell Larbi commended the NGO for the donation.
He said the financial standing of the hospital not encouraging due to low reimbursement by National Health Insurance scheme and inability of patients to pay medical bills therefore called for more support from corporate bodies and individuals.
Sheila Larbi, In-charge of the Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit said the donation has been timely, given that , this month is Neonatal Jaundice awareness month which more equipment and logistics are needed to handle increasing cases.
