The Eastern Regional Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a motorbike snatching incident that occurred at Sibakon Down, near Comet Estate in the Akuapem South Municipality in Eastern Region.
According to the Police statement signed by Chief Inspector Bridget Opoku of the Public Affairs Unit, Eastern Region, the robbery took place on January 18, 2026, when two men hired the services of an okada rider, Muntari Zakari, from Kwabenya to Sibakon Hospital. Upon reaching Sibakon Down, the suspects allegedly attacked the rider with a locally manufactured pistol and a stone.
The assailants robbed the victim of his iPhone 13 Pro and demanded the key to his unregistered Royal motorbike.
However, the victim raised an alarm, drawing the attention of residents. In the ensuing chaos, one of the suspects was lynched by the mob, while the other managed to flee the scene with the stolen phone.
Police investigations led to the arrest of the fleeing suspect, identified as 31-year-old Kwabla Egblorgbe Gadoglo Mohammed, also known as “Moha.” He was apprehended on February 13, 2026, at his hideout in Afienya by personnel from the Eastern Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID).
A search conducted at his residence at Abokobi uncovered several items, including a cutter, two pairs of scissors, two hammers, a hacksaw, a cutlass, a jackknife, a saw, and three mobile phones.
Further investigations resulted in the arrest of a second suspect, Kwame Accolor, alias “Small Kidi,” aged 37, at Anyako in the Volta Region. Police say he purchased the stolen iPhone 13 Pro for GH¢800.
The Police disclosed that efforts are ongoing to retrieve the locally manufactured pistol allegedly used in the robbery.
The accused persons have since been put before court. Mohammed, who pleaded guilty to robbery, will be sentenced on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, after the court deferred sentencing.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety and security of residents in the region.
