The Public Relations Department of the Eastern Regional Police Command is demanding an apology from TV3 Television station for displaying images of deceased Police Officer killed by Coronavirus on a national Television.
The Photo of the late Police Chief Inspector in Uniform was displayed on TV3 during 7:00 pm news bulleting Sunday, May 31, 2020.
A rejoinder issued to TV3 by the Public Relations Department intercepted by mybrytfmonline.com said “the command is disappointed in the way and manner TV3 displayed the late C/ Inspector’s picture on their screen.”
Describing it as “unprofessional and a clear mark of stigmatization against the deceased, his family and the police service as a whole.”
The Statement added that “the police command is, therefore, asking TV3 as a responsible media house immediately render an apology using the same medium to the late c/inspector’s family and the police service.”
The statement concluded that “the command will be left with no option than to blacklist TV3 media house if they fail to do the needful.”
55-year-old Chief Inspector who was the Station Officer in Charge in Koforidua died Friday, May 29, 2020, after a short illness.
He died while on admission at the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua a few days having visited the Police Clinic in Koforidua and Newland Hospital- a private facility.
The cause of death was not immediately known until sample results released after his death reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Samples of health workers at the Police Clinic and a private Hospital have also been taken by the Medical team while the affected staff quarantined.
Also, samples of 244 persons including Police personnel, inmates at Cells as well as families of Police officers at the Central Police station and barracks were taken on Sunday, May 31, 2020.
