The Eastern Regional Police Command has intercepted two tipper trucks loaded with 150 sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp at Apesua near Nkurakan.
The trucks, with registration numbers GN 9931-14 and GG 3674-20, were impounded on Tuesday, June 11, 2025, around 7:30am during an intelligence-led operation.
Mybrytfmonline.com gathered that the operation faced resistance from the some residents in the community for minutes.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern Regional Police Command, Superintendent Ebenezer Tetteh, the suspected narcotic substances were carefully concealed under trips of sand in the vehicles in an attempt to evade detection.
The drivers of the two trucks have since been arrested to assist police investigations.
Superintendent Tetteh indicated that the Ghana Police Service has intensified its nationwide crackdown on drug trafficking and related crimes, which has recently led to the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of large quantities of suspected narcotic substances across various parts of the country.
The police say investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be processed for court upon completion of the probe.
