The Eastern Regional Police Command is building the capacity of Police Officers on a weapon to equip them with the knowledge and skills to fight emerging sophisticated criminal activities.
The refresher and promotional course for 120 junior rank Police personnel in the region which started Monday, June 14, 2021, apart from seeking to promote the officers, is also expected to update the police officers on evolving criminal activities and the modus operandi of the criminals.
They will also learn crime detection, weapon handling techniques, how to conduct lawful arrest, investigation, prevention of prisoner escape, code of conduct, the discipline of officers among others.
In his opening address, the Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP/Mr. Edward Johnson Akrofi -Oyirifi said, the training instituted by the Inspector General of Police James- Oppong Buanuh has become imperative due to happenings in Ghana and the global front.
He said Police officers need to arm themselves with updated knowledge and skills to enable them to deal with evolving organized and sophisticated crimes.
He said the system will show any police officer the exit if he or she engages in misconduct. He cited incidents of unprofessional arrests of suspects and shooting as denting the image of the police service.
“I assure you that a brighter future awaits you if you are corporate and do the needful. I am saying this because if you misconduct yourself, it is subject to service inquiry, and let me reiterate that it can lead to your dismissal”.
DCOP AKrofi -Oyirifi also added that recent cases of suicide among personnel are worrying therefore facilitators will take participants through psychological support therapy to be resilient in handling personal issues.
