The police have retrieved a cache of weapons and ammunition concealed by some notorious robbers based at Ntoaso, near Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The armed robbery gang operates from their hideout in parts of Greater Accra and Eastern Regions.
The ammunition retrieved during the operation includes 2,882 rounds of AK47 ammunition, 840 rounds of M16 ammunition, five 7.62 cartridges, and 23 BB cartridges.
Additionally, seven machetes, an AK 47 assault rifle, an M16 rifle, a pump-action gun, a shotgun, a pistol, five knives, a sword, a crowbar, a military camouflage uniform, and a traditional warrior’s smock were also retrieved.
This comes after four(4) suspected members of the armed robber’s gang were killed in a shootout with the police at Ntoaso two months ago
Five persons, including a military man and a sub-chief of Kyebi-Apapam, who was with the armed robbers during the shootout in an uncompleted building, were arrested.
The suspects arrested were Philip Kwadwo Larbi, 42, Abass Baah, 36, Edward Kwafo, 35, Sergeant (Sgt) Isaac Asare of the Ghana Air force, and Nana Baah alias Haruna, the sub-chief.
Speaking to the media Wednesday, June 30, 3021 with an update on criminal cases in the country, the Director-General of the CID, Mr. Isaac Ken Yeboah, the Operations were carried out based on police intelligence as part of security measures adopted by the Police Administration under the new Anti-Armed Robbery Task Force (AARTF) strategy aimed at curbing robberies and other violent crimes in the country.
Mr. Yeboah said two of the suspected robbers whose identities were not yet known were gunned down during the recent operation in the Ntoaso area after they opened fire on the police, while two other members of the gang fled on seeing the police.
The police, he said, arrested one of the gang members assisting the police in investigations.
