The two major political parties, that is, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), the National Peace Council, and the office of the Chief Imam have all agreed to ensure peace before, during, and after the December general elections.
The above-mentioned stakeholders were of the view that the peace of the country cannot tamper with election violence hence the need to uphold it at all times.
Discussing the peace of the country ahead of the December polls on Bryt FM in Koforidua on Thursday, the Eastern Regional Chief Imam, Alhaji Yusif Hamdani Suleman emphasized the need to ensure the peace of the country is secured devoid of one’s political affiliation.
He, however, denied the general perception of Moslem youth been used as a catalyst to fuel political violence indicating that most criminals usually impersonate to engage in crimes.
Member of the National Peace Council, Prince Albert Koomson was also of the view that the actions and inactions of politicians as well as party supporters have contributed to some minor electoral violence over the years and therefore called on the public to join in the maintaining of peace.
He assured listeners of the NPP’S commitment to ensuring peaceful elections in the December polls as all party communicators and supporters have been educated much to restrain from actions that could lead to any electoral violence.
Meanwhile, Stephen Akakpo of the NDC Communication team also retreated the party’s preparedness to uphold the peace bestow on us as a country to bring the development we deserve.
Ghana is preparing to conduct its presidential and parliamentary elections on December 7, 2020, to elect leaders to govern the affairs of the country for the next four years with tension characterizing the electoral processes.
