Hundreds of peasant farmers at Akuapem Lakpa a farming community in Okere District of Eastern region have benefitted from free medical intervention by foreign volunteers.
The none for profit international organization -Projects Abroad uses international student volunteers to impact impoverished communities aimed at improving the health of the residents in line with the sustainable development goals on affordable quality health and wellbeing for all.
Many inhabitants predominantly peasant farmers in Lakpa community were provided various health interventions and medication for treatment of diagnosed diseases.
Leader of the medical team , Dr.Samuel Awuku, also Chief Executive Officer Akuapem community Clinic said Hypertension is was high among the beneficiaries screened.
He attributed the situation to multiple factors including poor diet and stress.
He explained that the Projects Abroad volunteers who come to Ghana every year have been impactful to many rural communities.
The volunteers after the exercise, had lots of fun with children in Akuapem Lakpa community as they dance to their songs .
