Lives of teachers and pupils of Obawale Methodist basic school in the Yilo Krobo municipality of the Eastern region are at great risk as the state of the school block remains a death trap.
Pupils continue to use the uncompleted dilapidated school building despite parts of the roofs ripped off with authorities seem not concerned about its poor state.
Teachers and pupils, however, use the building at the mercy of the weather as they suffer from the scorching sun in this harmattan season and are also expected to have bad experience with the rainy season if nothing is done about the situation.
Surprisingly, a new school block facilitated by the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Yilo Krobo, Ebenezer Tetteh Kupualor has been completed and locked, awaiting for official commissioning, according to Rite Fm reporter David Ayertey.
The PTA Chairman, Mr. John Mautsuoeni noted the school was established in 1965 by the Wesleyan Methodist Church which was run until the Municipal Assembly came to build a three-unit pavilion under the former MCE.
“The new block was completed around November last year and I met the MCE, told him that we needed to start using the place and he promised to come and hand over to us but, till date, we have not heard anything yet” he said.
However, the current MCE, Mr. Eric Tetteh, who spotted the post on Facebook, commented saying, “Not fun fair. Our engineers detected some problems with the doors and the contractor promised rectifying it by 1st week of February. If you don’t know ask”.
