The Social Welfare Department at the Asuogyaman District Assembly on Thursday 18 August 2022 distributed the first tranche of valuable items (namely fridges, provisions, sewing machines, and bags of rice, to name a few ) to Nineteen(19) Persons Living with Disabilities (PWDs) at the cost of Sixty -Seven thousand Ghana cedis (GHC 67,000) under the economic empowerment programme for the year 2022.
The District Chief Executive for the Asuogyaman District Assembly, Hon Samuel Kwame Agyekum, who was the Special guest of honour urged the beneficiaries to use the items profitably for their lives and that of their families.
It is noteworthy that upon assumption of office by President Nana Akufo Addo’s administration, Persons Living With Disability’s share of the District Assembly common fund has increased from two per cent (2%) to three per cent (3%) and more so a drift of policy direction from handling over cash amount to procuring of valuable items to the PWDs upon their recommendation.
The policy direction has equipped most PWDs to be self-reliant to the general well-being of their respective communities and country.
