Five municipal and district hospitals in the Eastern Region were officially handed over for immediate operational use on Wednesday, 2nd April, 2025. The beneficiary areas are Okere, Nkwatia, Achiase, New Juaben North, and Atiwa West.
The keys to the facilities were handed over to the Regional Minister, Mrs. Rita Akosua Awatey, during a symbolic and colorful ceremony at Okere to mark the official commencement of operations.
These hospitals will provide quality healthcare services to their respective communities.
The hospitals are equipped with modern facilities and equipment, ensuring that patients receive the best possible care. This investment in healthcare infrastructure is expected to have a positive impact on the health and well-being of residents in these municipalities and districts.
Mrs. Awatey said the hospitals are critical investments in the health and well-being of the people. They will provide quality healthcare services to the communities, reducing the need for referrals to regional or national hospitals.
She expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Health, the Assemblies, and all development partners for their tireless efforts in making these projects a reality. She added that the construction of these hospitals is a testament to the power of collaboration and partnership.
The minister urged the communities and workers to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance. They must work together to keep the hospitals in good condition so that they continue to provide quality healthcare services for generations to come.
Mrs. Awatey called for all hands on deck to ensure that these hospitals become beacons of hope and centers for quality healthcare delivery. She urged members of the five communities to take advantage of the services offered and prioritize their health and well-being.
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, stated that the hospitals will offer comprehensive healthcare services, including emergency care, maternal and child health services, and outpatient services.
He emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system, saying: “We are working tirelessly to ensure that all citizens have access to quality healthcare, regardless of their geographical location or socio-economic status.”
The Director General of the Ghana Health Services, Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, encouraged healthcare professionals to uphold high standards of service and prioritize patient care.
He urged the workers and residents of the communities to collaborate, take ownership of the facilities, and ensure their proper maintenance. According to Prof. Akoriyea, the hospitals belong to the people, and he encouraged them to take care of the facilities and utilize their services for better health and well-being.
The Chief of Adukrom and Nifahene of the Akuapem Traditional Area, Osuodumgya Otutu Ababio V, urged the health workers who will be posted to these facilities to exercise patience, show empathy, and always put the plight of patients first.
