Richard Etornam Nyarko,Eastern Regional Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, is urging the youth of the party to remain calm.
In a brief statement ,Richard Etornam Nyarko stated that “it has come to the notice of the eastern regional youth organizer that certain comrades stormed public offices for the obvious reason of winner takes over. This obstruction of operations at these offices is a deviation of our purpose as a people and smears the good image we have acquired and long protected”.
He added “While I agree that the issue of winner takes over should be addressed, we must patiently trust the system. Our patience in the new administration is another proof of trust in H.E John Dramani Mahama’s will to provide job opportunities to the youths in our dear country”.
“I hence call for calm from our beloved comrades as we help the administration build a safer society to prosper our works”.
His admonishing comes after a group of NDC supporters on Wednesday morning locked up offices occupied by known NPP executives at the New Juaben South Assembly.
Offices affected include National Identification Authority, National Service Scheme, National Disaster Management Organization, and TVET. At the Region level, the NSS office, Health Insurance, NADMO were also affected.
The Police however intervened to ensure law and order restored.
The group claimed their actions were in retaliation for similar incidents in 2016 and 2017, during which NPP supporters allegedly locked offices occupied by known NDC members, seized public toilets, and chased out NDC-affiliated assembly members following their victory in the 2016 elections.
The New Juaben South Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Salassie Amuzu, also strongly urged party supporters to desist from retaliating against members of the NPP occupying key positions at the assembly and the Regional levels
The incident occurred just a day after John Dramani Mahama was sworn in as President on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, following his victory in the 2024 elections.
The party leadership in New Juaben South has assured the public that measures are being put in place to prevent further incidents and ensure a smooth transition at the municipal level.
