Parents have been advised not to release their marriage and relationship problems on their children as they are not to be blamed for any of their issues.
They have also been urged to take full responsibility of their children welfare as enshrined in the rights of the child in the Ghanaian constitution.
Mr. Kenneth Quarshie, Community Development Officer for Child Rights International made this appeal at Suhyen-Mpaem in the New Juaben North municipality of the region during a community engagement held by Community Child Protection Committee (CCPC), Mondelez, the Social Department of the Assembly and traditional authorities to sensitise the community on child labour.
Madam Sally Mahama, the Head of the Municipal Welfare Department in her speech also touched on the need for all Ghanaians to support in the upbringing of children, whether being a the parents or not as it was been done in the past.
According to her, her outfit and government have over the years done a lot to help deal with the problem but indicated it cannot be realise without the support of all stakeholders.
She however, led a team to demonstrate to participants and students the meaning of child labour, effects and the need to help in curbing the menace.
The Municipal Chief Executive for New Juaben North, Madam Comfort Asante pledged government continuous commitment to the development of every child baring in mind the rights of children as enshrined in the constitution.
She emphasised that, the Asssembly has provided ultra modern school block, teachers’ bungalow, health centre and many other facilities to help in the proper upbringing of children within the community and its environs.
Traditional leader of the community, Odikro Bekoe was grateful to CCPC and the other stakeholders for their support in sensitising community members on child labour over the years which has positively affected the education and well being of children in the area.
