Chaos ensued as a group of young men, suspected to be “Sakawa boys” went on a rampage at Koforidua Asokore in Eastern Region.
The reckless driving of private cars by these individuals resulted in a violent confrontation with a taxi driver near the Asokore Chief’s palace.
Eyewitnesses reported that the Sakawa boys, attending the funeral of a colleague who tragically took his own life a month ago in Dabiasem, suburb of Asokore clashed with the taxi driver.
The situation escalated as some of the individuals wielded cutlasses and sticks, attempting to lynch the taxi driver.
Quick intervention by brave residents prevented a potential tragedy.
Despite the intervention, the taxi driver, identified as a extended family relative of IGP Dr. George Akufo Dampare, was left severely injured, having sustained multiple head injuries.
Distressed residents revealed that this is not an isolated incident, with Sakawa boys frequently engaging in reckless driving during community funerals, endangering lives.
Authorities are urged to address this concerning trend promptly to ensure the safety and security of residents in Koforidua-Asokore.
The latest incident has been reported to Effiduase police which a medical forms issued for the victim’s treatment.
