“My dear graduands, remember, education is not confined to textbooks and classrooms only. It is a livelong journey of discovery, growth and empowerment. As you embark on your career, embrace innovation and create inclusive spaces where every student feels valued, respected and inspired to learn. Advocate for equitable access to quality education, and be the voice for the voiceless” principal of SDA College of Education told graduands.
Dr. Cecelia Ofosua Odame at the 13th congregation of the college also charged graduands to continue to engage in continuous Professional development to equip themselves adequately to meet the demands of the changing trends in education and always be ready to give their best in every task you engage in without expecting anything in return.
According to Dr. Ofosua Odame, the school’s current population stands at 2, 280 comprising of 57% females and 43% males.
Speaking on achievements over the years, the principal stated the college was the best in terms of academic results among all the 17 colleges affiliated to the university of Education, Winneba in the 2021/22 academic year.
On the implementation of the B.Ed programme, the college was among the best 7, out of the 46 colleges of education to implement degree programme.
Provision of a polyclinic, early grade resource Centre, re-electrification of the entire campus and many others were mentioned by the principal.
Dr. Cecelia Ofosua Odame called for support for busses to convey students to and from their weekly STS practice, equipment for the science laboratory, large lecture halls among many others being challenges of the college.
Meanwhile, a speech read on behalf of the minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum used the occasion to appeal to CETAG to engage the ministry further on the implementation of the negotiated allowances for it’s members rather than going on strike, Wich will end up disrupting the academic calendar.
He assured CETAG that his outfit is indeed committed to resolving all legitimate demands of all employees of the ministry to ensure industrial harmony.
“Again, government is providing all necessary infrastructure and other academic facilities to enable the effective fulfilment of their primary responsibility as teacher trainers”.
“Government has released an amount of Ghc241, 913, 000 for the payment of teacher trainee allowance across the country” Dr. Osei Adutwum stated.
The theme for the congregation was “’empowereing the 21st century teacher with technology and life-long learning skils, the role of colleges of education”.
