Indigenes of Sikorkor, a rural community in the Okere District of the Eastern Region, have made a passionate appeal to the government to urgently address the numerous developmental challenges confronting the area.
The community currently lacks essential social amenities such as electricity, potable drinking water, healthcare facilities, and a reliable road network. These challenges have made life extremely difficult for residents, negatively affecting their health, education, and overall socio-economic well-being.
According to the residents, the absence of basic infrastructure has stalled development in the community and continues to deepen poverty levels. Women and children are particularly affected, as they are compelled to travel long distances to access clean drinking water and basic healthcare services.
The people of Sikorkor are therefore calling on the Member of Parliament for the Okere Constituency and the District Chief Executive to respond to their plight and advocate for the development of the area. They believe that timely government intervention will help transform the community and significantly improve living conditions.
Adding his voice to the appeal, Barima Opare Amponsah II, the Odikro of Sikorkor, urged the government to come to the aid of his people. He emphasized that the lack of social amenities has deprived the community of opportunities for growth and called for immediate action to bring relief to the residents.
The concerns of the community came to light during a coronation ceremony held to install new traditional leaders in the area. Residents expressed hope that their appeal would be heard and that development projects would soon be initiated to uplift the lives of the people of Sikorkor.
