Ghana National Association of Small Scale miners (GNASSM) in the Eastern Region have reconstituted its task force for internal monitoring of operations of its members to ensure strict compliance with the mining regulations.
The Taskforce headed by Don Chebe is to ensure that they fish out small-scale miners who are not adhering to best practices in mining.
Re-inaugurating the task force, the National Vice Chairman of GNASSM, Sampson Kofi Wiredu urges members of the task force to also clamp down on illegal miners polluting river bodies to tarnish the image of small scale mining.
He also announced the readiness of the task force to collaborate with the Taskforce of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for a successful Operation in the region.
The inauguration was preceded by a press conference by the Ghana National Association of Small Scale miners (GNASSM) same day Tuesday, May 11, 2021, at Akyem Nsutem.
Addressing the media, the association condemned the burning of Excavators by the government’s task force stating that it was not part of the recommendations during the national dialogue.
The association, therefore, called on the government to come clear with Operational guidelines for the military task force, and also institute an identification system for licensed small-scale miners to immune them from military harassment and unnecessary attacks.
Leonard Mensah PRO for GNASSM who addressed the media revealed that small-scale miners are ready to reclaim all abandoned pits and plant one million trees in the region.
He stated that small-scale miners are not behind the massive pollution of river bodies in the country rather blamed illegal miners using chanfai equipment to operate.
