In quest to improve quality education in Ghana, SOS Children’s Villages Ghana has commissioned water projects for five schools in Abuakwa North municipality in the Eastern region.
SOS Children’s Villages Ghana in its strategies, has commenced water pump installation projects in some primary schools across the country to enable young learners to have access to clean water and potable water.
The move by SOS Children’s Villages Ghana is in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG4) which aims to provide children and young people with quality and easy access to education with other learning opportunities.
Pupils in Abuakwa North municipality have benefited from a water pump installation project by SOS Children’s Villages Ghana. Over ten thousand students are expected to benefit from the initiative.
Speaking to the press, Alexander Mar Kekula, the National Director for the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana said they are committed to improving the quality of education for students in the country.
He stated that having access to clean drinking water is critical for humans to survive, adding that they are fighting for children’s development and progress.
Alexander Mar Kekula affirmed access to clean and potable drinking water has been a problem for communities in the country.
Alexander Mar Kekula added that the water project is a lifeline for schools and nearby communities.
It ensures that children have access to clean water, promoting good health, hygiene and creating an environment conducive for learning.
He explained that lack of clean and potable drinking water has brought a negative impact on the health, education and well-being of children.
He continued that the project symbolizes a collective commitment to enable every child to have access to fundamental essentials of life.
Alexander Mar Kekula continued that they are putting measures in place to close and eliminate gender disparities in education and ensure equal access to all at levels of education gender with strategic effort.
To him, educating a girl child is the best practice of educating a nation.
He indicated that the organization is building school infrastructures to same deprived schools in Ghana with provision of ICT materials.
Alexander Mar Kekula pleaded with donors to join hands with the SOS Children’s Villages Ghana to help reach out to children.
Alexander Mar Kekula also thanked Joissam company limited, Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly, Ghana Educational Service Directorate for Abuakwa North Municipality for their collaborative effort.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa North Municipality, Hon Alhaji Umar Bas Bodinga on his part urged the various school heads to take good care with proper maintenance with the water pump installation project.
He explained that providing safe water, sanitation for pupils’ wellbeing is very crucial.
Hon Alhaji Bas Bodinga extoled SOS Children’s Villages Ghana for their unweaving support to the schools in the municipality.
He said that SOS Children’s Villages Ghana has contributed immensely to the communities in the country.
Nana Adepa Presbyterian Nursery and school complex, Kukurantumi M/A school, Obodanase Presbyterian school and some others benefited from the water project.
SOS Children’s Villages is dedicated to improving the lives of children and young people without parental care or at risk of losing it.
Together with partners, donors, communities, children, young people and families, SOS Children’s Villages enable children to grow up with the bonds they need to develop and become their strongest selves.
