The Suhum Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Aseda Foundation has provided free training for over 793 artisans drawn from Suhum Municipality of the Eastern region with skills in vocational training.
The beneficiaries are trained free of charge over one week in various skills such as fashion design, soap making, cosmetology and catering.
The training programme, which is jointly executed by the Suhum Municipal Assembly and Aseda Foundation seeks to ensure that the less privileged youth who desire to get employable skills were trained in vocational skills of their choice.
The Municipal Chief executive for Suhum also presented 30 sawing machines to some fashion designers as required logistics to enable them to train more unemployed youth in the area.
In a short graduation celebration held at the Suhum community center on 1st July, 2023, the graduating trainees were given certificate funded by the municipal Chief executive, hon Margaret Darko Darkwah after their intensive training.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Magret Darko Darkwah in a sideline interview with Afeema FM’s journalist Kaakyire Kwasi Afari, she noted that the Assembly was making sure that residents especially unemployed youth in Suhum benefited from President Akufo Addo’s job creation agenda through numerous initiatives to improve living standards.
This she said the Assembly was leveraging on the success of Aseda Foundation within the Western Region to fulfill a key goal of livelihood empowerment.
According to the MCE to fulfill its responsibility of creation job for the youth, the Suhum Municipal Assembly decided to partner Aseda Foundation and provided financial support to cater for the purchase of certificate, learning materials and tuition fees.
The MCE told Kaakyire Kwasi Afari that, the assembly would see to it that the beneficiaries were well prepared for the job opportunities that has been supported by the government.
The MCE encouraged the women to be brave and ambitious in their quest to achieve greater heights.
According to Margaret Darko Darkwah, it is not a crime for women to be ambitious; adding that in her case as she was a hairdresser, attempting to get to the level she found herself currently was not easy but became possible.
“Do not let anyone or anything obstruct you from being determined enough to aspire for greater things as a woman because it’s God who will let things happen as long as you are alive, let your dreams remain resolute. Do not let the negative things you hear underrate you that you are a common hairdresser because what you will account for in the future is the most important thing,” she said.
One of the beneficiaries, Bernice Ohenewaa, a hairdresser said, it was her desire to learn more vocational skills to help other people and called on the participants to make use of the skills acquired.
Bernice Ohenewaa who studied Soap making was optimistic that the new profession as a Soap maker will help double her daily income as she looks forward to exploring her skills to improve her living standard.
