Barima Amoako Kokora Boame, Chief of Suhum-Okorase has stated that the traditional leaders in Okorase are committed to contribute to national development in the Eastern region.
According to Barima Amoako, Okroaseman is experiencing development in all sectors.
He announced that construction of a new chief palace and other projects will soon commence in the community.
Speaking at the 2023 Suhum- Okroase Odwira Festival in the Eastern region, Barima Amoako called for unity among parliamentary aspirants to be decent in their campaign as the country is approaching the 2024 general elections.
He pleaded to the people to continue to support one another and work hard to transform Okroase.
Barima Amoako commended Hon Oboafo Asante, the Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency for supporting schools in Okorase with fifty (50) pieces of desks with educational materials.
Suhum-Okorase Nkosuohene, Nana Kwesi Gyampoh also indicated that they have expanded the Okorase chip center from one to seven rooms with bathrooms.
He said that they are working hard on projects to create more job opportunities for the youths adding that they will donate laptop for chip compound for patient’s data
Nana Kwesi Gyampoh affirmed that the traditional leaders have plans to collaborate with the United States to set up a student change program to uplift education in the area.
The Member of Parliament for Suhum Constituency in the Eastern region, Hon Oboafo Kwadjo Asante has disclosed that the government has invested more than GH¢114.5 billion in the educational sector since 2017.
To him, an amount of 12.96 billion GH¢ had been spent on senior high schools across the country.
Hon Oboafo Asante said that the government has invested heavily in educational infrastructure, Teaching and Learning related projects, school Feeding programs which has increased the literacy rate in Ghana and Suhum Constituency as well.
He indicated that the NPP government has done more for the growth of the educational sector adding that they are committed that every child will have access to quality education in order to transform the lives of the people and promote economic growth.
Hon. Oboafo Kwadjo Asante revealed that the student population in senior High has gone up from 830,000 when President Akuffo Addo took office to 1.4 million students as a result of the Free SHS Policy.
Hon Oboafo Asante continued that before the introduction of the Free SHS program, Ghana had the unfortunate situation where on the average 100,000 children every year passed the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) but could not attend Senior High School because they could not afford the fees even though they had the qualification.
He urged the youths to invest their time and resources in education rather than temporary pleasures of life.
‘‘I know one of the major challenges facing Okorase Presby schools is the deplorable school building which has seriously affected the enrollment. As your Member of Parliament, I stand by my pledge to fix this challenge step by step,’’ he said.
Hon Oboafo Asante disclosed that his office has cut sod for construction of a 3-unit classroom block with staff offices and washroom facility for Suhum Okroaseman.
“We are building six unit ultra-modern toilet facilities with Mechanized Boreholes at Zorh Basic School, Akorabo Basic School, Oboadaka Basic School and Suhum PRESEC,’’ said Hon Oboafo Asante.
Hon Oboafo Asante promised to fix the challenges in the community step by step.
