The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God Ghana Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso has condemned recent waves of the coup in the sub-region.
According to the General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God Church Ghana, he is worried that some individuals in Ghana and wishing the same for the country.
He said, military interventions never helped Ghana therefore it is important to protect the fourth republican constitution and the democracy being enjoyed.
“I cannot speak for the church but as an individual, I am worried because a coup destroys every nation, we have seen it right from the ’60s until 1992, the instability, the sudden changes, killings, anarchy, and lives lost. Firing people couldn’t change lives, it couldn’t bring progress, it couldn’t bring development, that’s why we went back to democracy since 1992 or 1993 January 7th, we haven’t got there but gradually we will get there that’s why we change governments, we change MP’s and we change leaders.
“So to me, the ballot is stronger than the bullet so Ghanaians should not encourage, should not promote or we should not even bring coup d’etat in our national conversation because coups are an abomination, they are detestable and we should treat any coup issues with contempt that they deserve” he stressed.
He commented during an interview with the media on the sidelines of induction service for a news Regional Superintendent for Eastern Region “A” zone in the person of Rev. Dr. Albert Anane at Central Assemblies of God Church Auditorium in Koforidua.
Rev. Prof. Paul Frimpong Manso responding to questions about the accusation of loud silence of the clergy in recent years, said the clergy is the voice of conscience of the nation and therefore continues to speak however encouraged many to add their voices to national issues to help shape the nation without fear, favor, and bias.
“Because they are afraid of what people will say, oh he is NDC, he is NPP, and you will get these Politicians speaking against us, when we speak they will say the pastors are speaking too much, when we don’t speak they will say the pastors are not speaking. To me God has raised ministers of the gospel as the conscience of the nation, we are to speak for the voiceless” he said
The newly inducted Eastern Regional “A” Superintendent Rev. Dr. Albert Anane said the church exists to serve the needs of the community therefore as a leader he intends to engage the church in development which will have a positive impact on the citizenry and the community at large.
