Vegetable growers at Akyem Nsutam in the Fanteakwa south district in the Eastern region have blamed activities of illegal miners for the recent flood that submerged many vegetable farms in the area.
Large acres of vegetable farms were flooded after some illegal miners diverted the River which eventually caused flooding after a downpour.
The affected farmers say, they took loans from rural banks to invest in their farms therefore the incident has created huge lost fearing their bankers will chase and confiscate their properties for defaulting loan payments.
Nsutam Omankrado Nana Amoako Antwi ll said the flooding has wreaked havoc on many vegetable farmers.
He called on Fanteakwa South District Assembly to clamp down on illegal mining activities in the area particularly those mining along the Birim River.
