Parts of Somanya were hit with another violent rainstorm for the second time within five months.
The 30 minutes rainstorm which occurred between 4:30pm to 5:00pm on the 19th of April 2020 resulted in the destruction of buildings and Electricity installations.

Buildings were ripped off as roofs flew in the sky crashing electricity cables.
The rainstorm affected the power supply to the Somanya Township. Engineers from the Electricity Company of Ghana have since fixed the damages to restore power.

The Deputy Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Bismark Angmor, said assessment of destruction caused was underway.
A similar disastrous rainstorm incident which occurred last year November 25, 2019 led to injuries of Some individuals while office complex housing the Barclay’s Bank and Yilo Star, a financial institution and Nanatel-MTN agent had their roofs ripped off, whilst AGT Micro Finance, as well as the GCB Bank in Somanya, were partially affected. Additionally, the Somanya Police Station and polyclinic were not spared.

Somanya residents still hold the superstitious belief that the gods are angry about the bad deeds of some chiefs in the area, therefore, calling for rituals to pacify the gods.
