A 13 -member Board of Governors of W.B.M Zion Senior High School in Akyem Old Tafo in Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region has been inaugurated.
Members of the new Board are; Mrs. Margret Nsiah Ofori (Regional Director of Education), Bartholomew Ofori (Director General of GES), Ms. Abena Gyamera (Abuakwa North Municipal Director of Education), Prof. Emmanuel Adinyira (AME Church Representative), Mr. Richard Anarfi (Headmaster), Mr. Joseph Obeng (PTA representative), Mr. Ruth Woode, Mr. Roya Boateng Antwi (Abuakwa North Assembly Representative), Mr. Donald Kwame Asiedu and Ms. Kyerewa Philomina (Old Students Representatives).
Rev. Francis Omanpeh Siaw (Teaching staff representative), Mrs. Dorcas Boateng Antwi (Non-Teaching staff representative, and Ms. Getrude Ampomaa Mensah (Traditional Council Representative).
Inaugurating the board, the Eastern Regional Director of Education, Margaret Nsiah- Asamoah, charged the board to ensure judicious use of resources allocated to the school to create and promote a congenial academic environment to enhance effective teaching and learning.
She also urged members of the new board to frequently visit the school to know their challenges to enable them to take swift actions to address them.
The Regional Director of Education however said despite the powers of the Board, certain decisions such as the dismissal of students must be sanctioned by the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
Prof Emmanuel Adinyira, Associate Professor at Department of Construction Technology and Management at KNUST, and a board member of the W.B.M Zion SHS who spoke on behalf of the board said the high academic feat chocked by the old board will be sustained and improved through a holistic approach which encompasses discipline, quality teaching, and learning and infrastructural improvement.
He said the new board will diligently work to address the myriad of infrastructural challenges affecting the school.
Chief of Akyem Tafo Osabarima Adusei Peasah charged the new board to be efficient.
W.B.M Zion Senior High School was established by the AME Zion Church in 1979 in rented facilities but the school relocated to its new site in 2016.
