Yilo Krobo, located in the Eastern Region of Ghana, has been rattled by two consecutive armed robbery incidents within the span of just two weeks, sending shockwaves throughout the community.
In the latest terrifying episode which occured evening of Monday October 23, 2023 , four assailants, one of whom was a woman, targeted the Gaso Filling station and a mobile money vendor nearby.
The incident happened in Ogome, right in the heart of Yilo Krobo, a mere 200 meters away from SP GAS station, where a similar robbery took place in October 11, 2023.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the four armed robbers executed their deadly mission with incredible swiftness, taking less than 8 minutes to strike terror into their victims’ hearts. They unleashed a barrage of warning shots to instill fear.
The criminals, armed with pump-action guns, managed to seize an undisclosed sum of money from Gaso Filling station and a substantial amount of Twenty Eight Thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 28,000) from a mobile money vendor.
As they sought to make their escape, the robbers fired a shot, which resulted in injuries.
One pump attendant employed at Gaso Filling station was wounded, alongside two other individuals who happened to be in their path during the chaotic getaway.
Two of the victims are now receiving medical care at the Yilo Krobo Municipal Hospital, while one has already been treated and discharged by the Somanya Poly clinic.
Lack of CCTV cameras at the filling station has added to the complexity of the case, as investigators face a significant gap in evidence.
Additionally, it has been disclosed that the police in Yilo Krobo lack proper vehicles, particularly pick-up trucks, which would enhance their patrol capabilities on both the main road and within the township. This resource deficiency further complicates their efforts to tackle criminal activities in the region.
The two recent armed robberies have sent shockwaves through Yilo Krobo, underscoring the need for heightened security measures and stronger law enforcement to ensure the safety of businesses and residents in the area.
