A new youth group is emerging to hit the streets over deteriorating condition of roads in New Juaben North and South Municipalities.
The group calling itself “Arise Citizens of Koforidua” is currently mobilizing many youth groups and concerned residents to express their displeasure through exercise of their democratic right to demonstrate.
A statement posted on a WhatsApp platform by the group intercepted by Mybrytfmonline.com incited the youth to “Rise up, citizens of Juabeng South and North! Demand your rights, hit the streets, and go forth!For too long, our roads have been neglected and ignored,
Leaving us stuck in mud, dust, and traffic, feeling bored.We need good roads in the inner cities and settlement neighbourhoods,To connect us to schools, clinics, markets, and livelihoods,
To enhance our mobility, accessibility, and safety,To attract investments, tourism, and prosperity”
The statement posted by the converner Agbodo Komla Godsway called on groups such as ” Mefri Koforidua,
Churches and CSOs should spearhead this movement.But we all need to play our part, with no exemption,
We should unite, organize, and communicate,To send a clear message to those who hold the fate.The citizenry deserves better, we have the power and voice,To demand accountability, transparency, and choice,Let’s not wait for another election or campaign,
Let’s act now, and make our grievances and demands plain”.
He added ” Rise up, citizens of Juaben South and North!The time for complacency and apathy is no more!
Let’s demand good roads, and other basic necessities,As we strive for progress, development, and equitable opportunities”.
Deplorable state of roads in Koforidua continue to be a worry to many residents and motorists.
Roads are riddles with potholes that continue to deteriorate.
Recently, some chiefs of New Juaben issued three months ultimatum to government to work on the roads else they will advise themselves.
The Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Michael Baafi hinted in June 2022 that about 35 km of town roads in Koforidua were going to be asphalted to give the roads a facelift to merit the regional capital status.
“As part of the ongoing Koforidua major road infrastructure, beginning Tuesday we are going asphalt all major roads in Koforidua township. Our target is to make Koforidua beautiful and meet metropolitan status”
On his part, the MCE Ike Appaw Gyasi said the year of the road is on course in Koforidua assuring that all major roads in Koforidua will be rehabilitated and tarred.
The asphalting of Koforidua town roads came to a halt after some few kilometers were done around the Chief Palace during before his enstoolment almost a year ago.
Before the celebration of the Farmers Day in December 2022, the contractor hurriedly alsphated another few kilometers around Cultural Center towards gallaway area where the event was held.
The equipment have since been stationary while roads continue to deteriorate.
