As part of efforts to intensify education and to create awareness on breast cancer in the month of October, a health talk on breast cancer and mental health related issues has been held in some Junior High Schools precisely the Ada Circuit in the New Juaben South Municipality of the Eastern region.
The health talk anchored by Deacon David Sablah a nurse and doubles as the immediate past President of Pentecost University College together with his team engaged the students on two critical health issues breast cancer and mental health.
The health talk focused on educating the students about breast cancer , including its signs , symptoms and risk factors , the importance of mental health particularly in the academic environment highlighting that a sound mind is essential for effective learning and personal development.
During the talk, Deacon David Sablah emphasized that not every lump in the breast indicates cancer, instead a proper diagnosis can only be made through a mammogram and various tests which he reiterated that it is an important message since early detection can significantly improve treatment outcome.
He also addressed some common misconceptions such as the belief that breast sucking can prevent breast cancer , clarifying that this is not supported by medical evidence.
In addition to the breast cancer awareness creation, it was pointed out that mental health of students in the academic environment should be prioritize and taking seriously with the justification that a sound mind is essential for effective learning and personal development.
David Sablah said “I encouraged the students to prioritize their mental well-being and to seek help if they are facing any challenges , it is crucial for them to understand that reporting any form of violence or threats they may encounter is vital as such experiences can significantly impact their mental health and academic performance”
“the talk at Ada Kyerematen M/A Basic School ‘B’ was a meaningful opportunity to educate young minds about breast cancer and mental health by fostering awareness and encouraging open discussions we can empower students to make informed decision about their health and support one another in their academic journeys” David Sablah added.
In conclusion David Sablah revealed that the main objective about the health talk was to encourage a culture of awareness and self-care among the students and to empower individuals to be proactive about their health.
