The Chief of Akyem Asikesu in the Eastern region Barima Agyei Konadu Yiadom II has called on the President of the Republic of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo to come clear and state his position on the LGBTQ related issues to all Ghanaians.
He said President Stating his position on the matter will bring finality to festering perceptions that homosexuality is indeed bound to happen and that will not assent to the anti LGBTQI plus bill before Parliament.
“President Akufo Addo is an staunch Akan. He knows our culture and traditions frowns on it .so he should be bold to make his stance on the LGBTQI+”
Addressing Chiefs and people of Akyem Asikesu during the celebration of the OhumKan festival,Barima Agyei Konadu Yiadom II said all Chiefs in Ghana and their subjects are against legalization LGBTQI describing it as abomination.
“I am taking this opportunity to tell politicians out minister our MPs that we chiefs are monitoring what is happening on parliament regarding LGBTQI+ .
If they don’t know and they accept LGBTQI+ I will rise against them.We are telling our politicians ,Nananom are against LGBTQI+ .In the olden days when something like this happen we execute them in the forest”
He backed the parliament of Ghana for the recent unanimous decision both sides of parliament took during the second hearing and reading of the bill.
According to him, the decision by parliament to unanimously allow the bill passed is a demonstration of protection of our culture and traditions and a clear path of creating a future of dignity for the unborn generation.
The Chief reiterated that Chiefs and traditional authorities in the country abhor the practice of gay and lesbianism hence they are willing to protect the people even if politicians fails to do the right thing.
