The Senior Midwifery Officer of Koforidua Asokore Sub Municipal Mrs. Mavis Bentil has disclosed the impact of bad roads on accessing health care in Gyamfikrom a suburb of New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern region.
According to Mrs. Mavis Bentil , the only CHPS compound located outskirt the community struggles to receive emergency cases on time and to make referrals to the Eastern Regional Hospital when the need arise.
Mrs. Mavis Bentil in an interview said “the road has been our biggest hurdle , the delays we encounter on the road to receive pregnant women who are about to deliver is worrying”
“sometimes these pregnant women are compel to walk to this facility since the drivers leave them along the way due to the nature of the road, we are pleading to authorities to at least grade and level the road for us if not asphalting it in the mean time”.
She noted further by calling the attention of authorities to consider the urgency of the situation saying there has been many instances where drivers refused to transport patients who have been referred to the regional hospital due to the bad nature of the road.
Mrs. Mavis Bentil made this known during the celebration of Child Health Promotion Week on the theme ” Healthy Childhood , Invest in your child for a better future” held at Gyamfikrom in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern region.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for Gyamfikrom Electoral Area Kankam Twumasi Daniel leverage on the occasion and organized free health insurance registration for children , birth registration as well as presentation of awards to health personnels in the CHPs compound for their hard work.
Kankam Twumasi Daniel outlined the motivation for the gesture and his vision for pursuing development in the area and urged the MCE for the area to pay attention to the road connecting the CHPs compound.
Mr. Bruce Ankomah is the Koforidua Asokore-Sub District Parent of Ghana Health Service, in an address on behalf of the New Juaben North Municipal Health Director recounted on importance of celebrating Child Health Promotion Week urging parents to facilitate the health of their children through regular check ups to avert future complications since the children of today are the future leaders of the country.
