The Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress NDC in the New Juaben North Constituency Samuel Adongo has backed calls to ensure a peaceful election in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The Parliamentary Candidate believes the 2024 general election is very crucial in the history of Ghana’s democratic dispensation and is an opportunity to prove to the rest of the world that Ghana is a peaceful country.
Speaking in an interview at the sidelines of this year’s Child Health Promotion Week in Gyamfikrom a suburb of New Juaben North Constituency in the Eastern region, Samuel Adongo described the conduct of some security personnels on elections duty as unprofessional and worrying citing the shooting and killing of eight innocent civilians in the 2020 election.
Samuel Adongo indicated by saying “the 2024 election is an election between the citizens of Ghana against the NPP government therefore no intimidation tactics like the use of some security personnels to put fear in Ghanaians will hold this time round like the shooting incident which occured in the 2020 elections”
“We want to assured the citizens that the NPP government cannot use any security agency to intimidate anybody because the security agencies themselves are all bearing the brunt of the untold hardship the NPP government has subjected all of us into hence we should all join hands with the NDC to vote out the NPP”
“It must also be put on records that any security personnel who will be tempted to do the bidding of any political party instead of acting professionally to ensure a peaceful election will be held accountable by the next NDC government” Samuel Adongo added.
Samuel Adongo however entreated all individuals in the Constituency who have attain the voting age to take the voter registration exercise serious and acquire their voters ID cards to participate in the upcoming election by voting for the NDC to rescue the country from the mess created by the NPP government.
The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress NDC H.E John Dramani Mahama on his campaign visit to Techiman early this year promised the people of Techiman that the next NDC administration will ensure a speedy investigation of the December 2020 election – related killing of innocent voters in Techiman and punish the culprits.
According to Mr. Mahama , if the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia government reneges on its duty of punishing those responsible for the shooting and killing of the three persons in Techiman during the elections, the NDC will investigate and punish all such persons.
The 2020 elections, for the first time, saw the killing of eight (8) defenceless citizens , among whom were children , with Techiman South recording a number of casualties.
