The Environmental Protection Agency EPA, Ghana Education Service and Zoomlion limited have celebrated world Environmental Day at Presbyterian Ancession Hall in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital.
Dr Felix Adochere, Regional EPA boss in an interview with the media stated that environmental issues are shared responsibility and called for all hands on deck.
He said this year activity undertaken is to commemorate world Environmental Day which falls on 5th of June every year and has seen introduction of Quiz competition among basics schools.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Land Restoration, the Certification of a Drought Resilience”.
Dr Felix Adochere emphasized that the EPA is determined to engage young adults in order to inculcate the habit of management and protection of the land space and the environment so that every child everywhere can say big No to land destruction characters in society and perhaps look at the face of parents who are into land degradation and deforestation of the environment to advise them to desist from such act of negative impact.
He added EPA has already worked with 15 schools in the region on environmental protection and management concepts so as to have fair idea of the environmental impact assessment and was of the view that in the near future, such children will serve as crusaders to Champion the course of good practices for the environment space and remain the apostles of the environment to spread the message.
Dr Felix Adochere in conclusion stated, destruction affecting the environment must be a concern to every citizenry and he appeal to the public that we should understand that the management of the environment is not meant for single individuals or one person or single institution and the government but collective approach because we are responsible for the destruction going around so therefore the restoration must be done by us. We all must come together as one to fight the menace.
He thanked the media for doing well and hinted that next year celebration would be held at New Juaben north Municility.
Meanwhile, Mrs Faustina Shadey, Regional Managerers of Zoomlion limited empressed her profound gratitude to the performance of the Basic Schools of this years First Ever Maiden World Environmental Day Celebration Quiz Competition.
She said, Zoomlion office has established zoom kids in some schools in some Municipal and Districts in the Region with the idea is to be agents of Environmental and sanitation campaigners.
Mrs Faustina Shadey assured, EPA, Ghana Education Services for continuous collaborations for better environment and sanitation purposes.
Freeman Methodist Basic A emerged winner for first ever Maiden Edition of the world Environmental Day Celebration Quiz Competition 2024 with 54%, placing Sarkodie M/A Basic School 2nd with 44% and leaving Nana kwaku Boateng Basic School at 3rd position.
Participants of the school quiz and their various schools were awarded Certificates, Veronica Buckets from Zoomlion Ghana limited and schools bags.
5 out of 15schools were selected for the quiz competition.
