The Koforidua High Court, presided over by Justice George Krofa Addae, has sentenced 53-year-old Musa Maliki, also known as Musa Bariki, to life imprisonment for the murders of three individuals, including his 12-year-old girlfriend, in Ayenasu, a village in the Eastern Region.
After a fifteen-year trial, the court found Musa Maliki guilty on three counts of murder.
The sentences for each count will run concurrently as per the Criminal Offences Amendment Act of 2003, which mandates life imprisonment for murder.
The case details reveal that Musa Maliki, a herdsman, had previously made repeated romantic advances towards 12-year-old Rama Fati, which she had declined.
On October 10, 2009, Maliki assaulted Rama Fati when she was sent to buy Milo by her uncle, Issifu Musa.
Rama Fati was rescued by Issifu Musa and another sibling, Baliki Maliki.
On the night of October 10-11, 2009, Maliki attacked the victims while they were asleep. He fatally stabbed Baliki Maliki and slit the throat of Rama Fati. Issifu Musa was also murdered when he attempted to confront Maliki. A witness, 10-year-old Noga Sule, managed to escape by hiding on the roof.
Maliki fled the scene, disposing of the murder weapon before being arrested in Nkawkaw on February 11, 2010.
He confessed to the crimes during police interrogation and was charged.
