The Independent Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern region Evans Appiah has hinted of installing first aid centres in all senior secondary schools in the Municipality to address the many health care challenges recorded in some senior high schools in the area.
It will be recall that a first -year female student at Aburi Girls Senior High School in the Eastern Region tragically passed away on Monday February 5, 2024 after she complained of severe stomach pains.
The saddened death of the student raised serious concern about first aid health status in senior high school since a source within the school alleged that the student was denied medical attention by the school nurse who reportedly accused her of repeated feigning illness.
The incident also raised concerns about the availability and effectiveness of how sick beys are being ran in the various senior high schools in Ghana to accommodate sick students for first aid services under emergency situations.
To this effect, the Independent Parliamentary Candidate for New Juaben South Constituency Evans Appiah during his visit to the Paramount Chief of New Juaben Traditional Area to officially pay homage to Nana Kwaku Boateng III and to also grace the maiden Akwasidae festival, he highlighted his intent to tour all senior high schools in the constituency to subsequently install first aid centres in the schools.
Expressing his worry about the recent death of the first year student of Aburi Girls Senior High Evans Appiah said “I don’t want what recently happened in Aburi Girls and one student lost her life repeat itself in New Juaben South so I have decided to collaborate with a certain company to install first aid centres in all secondary schools in New Juaben South”
” This will help to address some of this challenges in our schools so that first aid health care can be giving to students with immediate effect and the ones that need referrals will also be referred”
“I have started the renewal of NHIS Cards of about 1,000 students in Oti Boateng Senior High School and shall be extended to other SHS.
The Independent Parliamentary Candidate Evans Appiah however noted further that paying homage to the Paramount Chief of New Juaben Traditional Area Nana Kwaku Boateng III is an indication of his commitment to collaborate with traditional leaders to drive development in the constituency when he is elected as the next Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency.
He said “today is Akwasidae and this is the right time to come and ask for blessings from the traditional head of our land Nana Kwaku Boateng III ahead of the 2024 general elections” he added.
Evans Appiah is on record to have donated bags of cement to many senior high schools for renovation works as well as resourced the expansion of ICT lab at Trinity Presby Model Basic School.
He has also sponsored and pay the school fees of 39 nursing training students and 65 training students in the constituency were supported part payment of their school fees last year.
On the part of Nana Kwaku Boateng III the Paramount Chief of New Juaben Traditional Area, he advised the independent candidate to embark on campaign that is devoid of insult and present his vision to the people as he wished him well.
