The Koforidua Diocesan Lay Movement Council of the Methodist Church Ghana has slated Saturday, 17th February 2024, to celebrate His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Essampong, a High Court Judge and 4th Lay Chairman of the Diocese, at this year’s 5th S. K. Newton Memorial Lectures.
The lecture is scheduled to take place at the Wesley Methodist Cathedral, Koforidua, in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern Region.
This year’s celebration is under the theme: “Facts versus Truth in the execution of justice in Ghana: Christian Religion in focus” .
In an interview with TNP NEWS, the Lay Chairman of Koforidua Diocese, Mr Samuel Amo Duodu, said the lecture would be delivered by the Rt. Rev. Frederick Nnuroh, the past Bishop of Koforidua Diocese.
According to Mr Duodu, since the inception of the S.K. Newton Memorial Lectures in 2018, the Lay Movement Council has been able to demystify the success stories of knowledgeable past lay chairmen and also remembered them. They served at different levels and their contributions are worth emulating by all members in the church.
“Nothing could have been done without the mercies and strength by the Holy Spirit, faith of our fathers; we thank God,” Mr Duodu added.
In celebrating the focal person, His Lordship Justice Emmanuel Essampong, Mr Duodu said great lessons had been learnt from the works God had done through him and other gallant men and women that the dioceses are blessed to have had in their time.
According to him, this year, they anticipate boundless blessings in this 5th episode of the lecture series.
To this end, Mr Duodu called on all and sundry to participate fully in the lecture.
Taking his turn, the Vice Chairman of Koforidua Diocesan Lay Movement Council, Mr Samuel Kwesi Appah-Peniel, said this year’s S. K. Newton Memorial Lectures would be interesting, educative, informative, entertaining and full of fun.
As part of the lecture series, Mr Appah-Peniel said there would be circuit councils and diocesan organisations heritage exhibition and food bazaar.
He revealed that each circuit council and diocesan organisations had been assigned a task to perform at the event.
Touching on some dignitaries to grace the lectures, he said they were expecting the Omanhene of New Juaben Traditional Council, Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III; the Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Seth Kwame Acheampong; the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industries and Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben South, Hon. Okyere Baarfi; Hon. Nana Adjei, MP for New Juaben North; municipal chief executives, the State Chief Attorney and Mrs Emelia Addo-Kyireh.
The rest are heads of institutions, parliamentary candidates, friends from the legal fraternity, the clergy, among others.
Mr Appah-Peniel said the leadership of the Koforidua Diocese, led by Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel Asare-Kusi, was solidly behind the lectures.
He added that the support and collaboration enjoyed by Rt. Rev. Dr. Emmanuel K. Asare-Kusi is worthy of emulation.
