A man has been arrested in Koforidua attempting to double register in the ongoing voter registration exercise.
The suspect had previously registered during the September 2023 registration period but attempted to re-register at the Electoral Commission (EC) office on Wednesday.
The biometric system detected the attempt, leading to his immediate arrest.
The suspect admitted to the police that he was seeking a replacement for his lost voter ID card.
He is currently in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Kofi Asante Owusu, the New Juaben South Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, urged the public to avoid double voting and registering minors, emphasizing that the biometric system can identify such activities.
He noted that the EC will provide opportunities for individuals to replace lost voter ID cards, making re-registration unnecessary.
The Municipal Director of the EC was invited by the police to provide a statement regarding the incident to aid the ongoing investigation.
